Mechanical Engineering

ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mechanical Engineering started in the year 2010 with an intake of 60 students. The discipline constitutes both a theoretical and practical approach with perfect management skills.

The department has well-qualified faculties having vast experience in both teaching and industry. The department has library facilities with more number of journals. Many of the staff members have represented conferences seminars & workshops at various colleges. Many of the guest lectures are held in the department to improve the methods of teaching for both students & staff.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The department is located in an area of 3700 sq.mt. comprising Lecture halls, Departmental Library, Faculty rooms, Seminar hall, and Laboratories. The labs are well equipped with A/c facilities, with necessary new era Machinery. Each staff room has separate computer rendering e-learning. The major Laboratories are:

  • Heat & Mass Transfer Lab
  • Machine Shop Lab
  • Energy Conversion Lab
  • Metallography & Material Testing Lab
  • Design Lab
  • CAMA, CIM, CAED, CAMD Software labs.

RESULT ANALYSIS

The students of the Mechanical Engineering department have secured good results in university examinations.

  • 4 out of 6 Faculty achieved 100% Results in University Exams.
  • Shiva Prasad R (4th Sem Student) Secured 8th Place in University Toppers List.
  • T G Lochan (4th Sem Student) Secured 12th Place in University Toppers List.

ACHIEVEMENTS

    • Department has consistently secured its position as one among toppers in University Examination.
    • Department of ME is the only department in college which has more Ph.D. Candidates.
    • Department has launched a different systematic & scientific technical forum with providing awareness among the students.
    • Mr. Jithendra, ME has won a 1st prize(Gold Medal) in the VTU Intercollegiate single-zone Athletics Competitions.

RESEARCH

  • Dr. B. M. Satish Successfully guided 02 candidates for their Doctoral degree under Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and presently guiding 02 more candidates under the same University.
  • Six Faculties have registered for Ph.D. under Visvesvaraya Technological University.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

  • In addition to leading students towards academic excellence, we emphasize on their overall development by co-curricular activities, like Mechanical Forum YANTHRIX which deals with the basic approach of knowing specifications of the engines of the vintage automobiles. Arrangements are made to Industrial visits, exhibitions (Auto-Expo) etc., The Department has organized events under the coordination of Physical education director such as:
    • Inter-Zonal Throw ball competition.
    • NSS

FAQs About and Course Career

What Mechanical Engineering is all about?

Mechanical engineers design power-producing machines, such as internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, as well as power-using machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Mechanical engineers design other machines inside buildings, such as elevators and escalators.

Why is Mechanical Engineering important?

Mechanical engineers are involved with the design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, control, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Therefore, Mechanical Engineering is Important as It deals with all aspects of the conversion of thermal energy into useful work and the machines that make this possible.

Are Mechanical Engineers in demand?

As per the latest survey, employment of mechanical engineers is projected to grow 10 percent from 2018 to 2025 (and it is expected to grow further for the decades to come), which is as fast as the average for all occupations. Mechanical engineers will also remain involved in various manufacturing industries, particularly in automotive manufacturing.

What are the best jobs for Mechanical Engineers?

Architectural and Engineering Managers.

Materials Engineers.

Mechanical Engineering Technicians.

Nuclear Engineers.

Petroleum Engineers.

Sales Engineers.

Automobile Engineers.

Project Managers. Etc.

What are the Job-oriented Courses after Mechanical Engineering?

Piping Design and Engineering Course.

Master of Engineering in Tool Design.

Robotics Course.

Mechatronics Course.

Nanotechnology.

Masters in Business Administration. Etc.

What abilities should a person have for mechanical engineering?

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Excellent technical knowledge.

Ability to manage projects.

A high level of IT ability.

Commercial and budgeting skills.

What are the major job responsibilities of a mechanical engineer?

Across all sectors, mechanical engineer’s tasks generally include: designing and implementing cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability. developing a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines. developing, testing and evaluating theoretical designs.

How about your department at APSCE?

The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2010. The department is having 11 teaching staff [which includes 2 Professors (PhD holders – with more than 20 years of teaching experience) & 9 Assistant Professors] and 5 Non-teaching staff.
